Sketches from my Italy trip

June 15th, 2008 by Brendan Condit

Here are some sketches I made during the very little downtime we had while touring Italy. Nina and I stayed in Rome and the Amalfi Coast. The times I had free to draw were on the bus, train, ferry or while Nina was asleep so I didn’t get as much drawing as I would have liked. I hope to go back and try to draw some environments/landscapes from the photos we took.

Horton Hears a Premiere

March 10th, 2008 by Brendan Condit

Things are getting pretty exciting! Last week I saw Horton for the first time at Blue Sky’s NYC Premiere. We had an amazing time seeing Horton with our entire crew at the Ziegfeld Theater.

Fox was also able to invite 50 blue skyers out to Los Angeles for the Hollywood Premiere. I was one of the lucky lottery winners to fly out to the sunny LA and walk the “orange carpet” with all the stars. I only wish I could have brought Nina or some family along to share the experience. It was great to see the movie a second time and I can’t wait to hear the reviews. I had some worries and doubts about this project but it came together nicely.

Seeing Carol Burnett and all the other cast members was surreal.

There is plenty of humor from Jim Carey and some very subtle hilarity from Steve Carell.

Here is a photo of the late Dr. Seuss’ wife, Audrey Geisel. She was brought to tears when we screened the final film to her two weeks ago. She said we had captured the essence of her husband’s work.

GOB! I was too timid to approach all the celebs but I had promised I would get a shot of Will Arnett for a friend. And a Brendan is faithful…100%

Above all, it looks beautiful and is true to the compassionate themes of Dr. Seuss’ treasured children’s book. I am constantly blown away by the limitless talent of my co-workers and how great an honor it is to be part of their team.

Last December’s proposal

March 1st, 2008 by Brendan Condit

This past December I asked Nina to marry me. Over the past 8 years I have made drawings of our life together (you may see a few of them as earlier posts).

We had planned a regular date night walking around Midtown Manhattan looking at all the seasonal festivities and decorations. We had dinner reservations at a small intimate italian restaurant. She had no idea. After we had finished dinner, I handed her a wrapped frame of a drawing. As she looked up from the drawing she saw me mimicking the drawing. I asked her to marry me and…. she said YES!

I used the same paper to make the ring box that I wrapped her drawing in. I made a simple white paper band for her as a temporary ring as I knew she would want to pick out the perfect ring later.

happy bday jane

Jane makes cakes for each of the rigger’s birthdays and as a department we decided to show our gratitude by giving her a gift and a card. Someone had asked me to draw her for hte card and this is the portrait I painted. Still learning some things with painting but practice makes perfect.

Grandma Lindy

Sadly my grandma passed away a short while ago and I decided to make another painting of her. My brother had made a comment about imagining her riding a segway in heaven, sooo… Here’s what I pictured.
